The exhibition "Surf Art" is reflective of the culture. A significant number of locals are surfing enthusiasts who call the area home because of the world class waves. In May the municipality, in association with Quiksilver and other sponsors, hosted the Big Wave Invitational, a yearly surfing competition that saw swells in excess of 8 meters.
